Holidays are Upon Us

It is finally Spring Break...we are in need of a much needed break.  I wanted to share a short conversation we had in my class today.  I posted this on Facebook, but wanted to share this on here, too.  No worries, we'll post about our trip once we return.

While talking about what the students are doing for Spring Break, we had the following conversation:
Student #1: "I'm going to decorate eggs for Easter."
Me: "Does anyone know what Easter celebrates?"
(few students rose their hands...)
Student #2: To celebrate when rabbits were born.(this student was not the only one to think that)

This troubled me to see how our culture has distorted this religious holiday along with Christmas.  This sparked some great dialogue in my class and am blessed to have open discussions with questions and answers between myself and the kiddos.  I learned a lot and was able to make some more connections.

With Good Friday and Easter upon us, I'm feeling very grateful for the love that JC has shared with us through his death and resurrection.  Please take a moment and celebrate the true meaning of this week.  Trust me, I love the Easter candy, decorating of eggs, and of course Easter Egg Hunts (my parent's even had one for Erin and I while I was in college because we loved them so much!), but want to be cognizant to not get wrapped up on society's distractions from what is truly important...HIS love.

We are off to Istanbul, Turkey tomorrow morning (3:50am flight-blah!), but we are looking forward to another adventure together.  We have also already found a place to attend an English service in Istanbul on Sunday, so we're glad we can celebrate his resurrection.

We love you all!

Love,

Kristin (+Mark)
